Charlie's "OH NO" Day!

Charlie

It started like any beautiful sunny day, first the leash, then the ride in the car. Things were looking great.
Then Charlie recognized the parking space, oh yah, been here before! The Vet's Office!!
That is when he flattened himself on the floor of the station wagon. Yep, flat as a pancake.
We looked like abusive parents as we tried to drag Charlie out of the car. We tried treats, we waved his huggy toy around ... nothing worked.
It is nearly impossible to pick up a 100 pound dog that is acting like a complete lug.
Finally, Charlie arrived in the exam room having been drug on his rear in front of dignified poodles, adorable little lap dogs and more than a few arrogant felines.

Charlie was poked and stuck by all the tricks of the trade. He really hates this part.
But we are happy to say ... Charlie is fit as a fiddle.
You should have seen him strut his stuff out of the office. He puffed himself up to his now 105 pounds and trotted his way straight to the car.
The huggy toy was in his mouth all the way home.
I love this boy ... he's such a big baby!

There is a P.S. to this story.
Charlie had a discussion with us about "that vet". Charlie has the ability to sniff out trouble people, and this vet was nothing but trouble. So we took his advice and got a new vet.

She is young and good looking. That Charlie is always thinking!
Now, I keep towels at the ready, since Charlie's "young chick" gets licked from head to toe the minute she arrives.
He's totally in love with her and anything she does is fine with him.

Don't you just love it when things work out.

  1. We have a 100+ Golden too, but he is Mr. Stoic, even at the vet. In fact, he's so stoic and unflappable we have to check him all the time for injuries because he won't let you know he is hurt. Our other Golden (red mahogany) is a BIG BABY.

  2. Charlie is so adorable, he could be a twin to my son's dog Jackson. I can relate to them being big babies. That's so funny the way you described his entrance and then his exit from the office, all puffed up and proud of himself. Give him a hug from me, he is just too cute.

  5. Poor Charlie! He even looks wary.

Oddly enough, Quasar loves going to the vet and pulls me right up to the door and down the hall. I think it must be his chance at social interaction (Mom and Dad can be pretty boring day in and day out, I guess).

  6. Charlie,
Maybe your vet will come to your house, then you won't have an OH NO day.

  7. Cactus Jack Splash, you always have such great suggestions.

We did change vets. Charlie was right! Now, we have a terrific vet he loves who comes (you got it) to the house!

  9. I'm glad that you listened to Charlie. No dog should be that intimidated by a vet. Just because vets have to do things critters don't understand doesn't mean the vets bedside manner shouldn't somehow make it better. Clearly Charlie had an issue with that vet.

  10. Glad Charlie is in top-notch condition...you clearly take very good care of this little boy (and the others of course!).

He's a sweety! Tia HATES going to the vet. She refuses outright to get in the cat carrier, she wails all the way there, shakes like mad, refuses to get out of the carrier when at the vets and then hurries back in once the vet is done with her. Then at home, she either completely ignores me (as a punishment for me!) or she will stick to my side wanting cuddles and kisses to make it all better. LOL. To Tia, I don't think it makes a difference who the vet is, they're all the same to her...although my favourite vet is called Michael and I remember the first time we took her to him and he loved her to bits.

Hope everyone is well too, hugs from Meg and cats xxx

  11. A round of applause for you listening to Charlie and switching vets. Animals just know and I really trust my dog's reaction to everyone she meets. She's never wrong. How great to have a vet that makes house calls!

  13. That is the most adorable picture of poor little Charlie!! He can't help it if he's a delicate little flower in a big ole doggy body!! Poor baby!! I am so happy to hear that you got him a new vet...an attractive one who makes housecalls taboot!! Gotta love that! Animals sometimes (or most times) know better than we about bad kharma...or whatever you want to call it. I'm so glad you switched for Charlie's sake. He's absolutely adorable!! I love Goldens...
